    Measuring Outcomes

Believe it or not, all that effort that goes into planning for and
surviving your child's IEP meeting is not so that your child can get
services. It is so that your child can achieve. In order to
determine if your child's plan is working, you need to be able to
understand how his or her learning is being measured.

The last in our "Year of the IEP" series will address tests and test
results. At this program you will learn:

    • about different types of tests
    • the importance of subtest scores
    • about the different types of scores that are used by various tests
    • how to compare your child's learning from one year to the next.

    Executive Committee Endorses D200 Candidates

The Supported Education Association (SEA) wishes to thank all the D200 Board of Education candidates for their participation in the SEA candidate forum held in conjunction with the Buzz on March 15th.

Having deliberated on the perspectives offered by the various candidates, SEA is pleased to announce its endorsement of Sharon Patchak-Layman, Ralph Lee and John Allen. Patchak-Layman’s prior experience on the D97 Board of Education has provided a solid foundation of knowledge and skills that will enable her to address the educational, financial, and community collaboration issues facing the high school. Lee’s prior experience in development of successful minority achievement initiatives reflects a “can-do” mentality that is sorely needed at the high school. And we believe that John Allen’s analytical skills and career experience in evaluating performance against a standard has the potential to bring a heightened expectation for objective assessment to the board table. Importantly, we believe that Patchak-Layman, Lee and Allen are all prepared to represent and be accountable to all members of the Oak Park – River Forest Community. On behalf of SEA, we encourage everyone to vote for these candidates on April 17th.
